a car or scooter and circle the island yourself using the island map as
a guide or catch the yellow bus from the main road.
Join "Pa's Cross Island
Trek" and let your guide (Pa) take you on a cross the island climb, trek
and nature walk to experience the flora and fauna of the island. Knowledge
of Maori medicine & history is also shared. (c)
Join "Safari Tours" and let your tour guide take you on an open-air jeep
to an unforgettable experience of the island. The tour completes with a
beautiful fish B.B.Q that is served within a friendly environment.
Rarotonga's main shopping area (Avarua) is 10 minutes drive from Aroanui Cottages turning right on the main road.
Local crafts and souvenirs can be purchased
from many of the shops, even those on the main road as you make the circle
drive around the island.
A must to see is our Punanga Nui Market every Saturday
where local cooked food, produce, clothing, handicrafts and souvenirs can
be purchased all in one location. The market is also situated in Avarua.
There are a lot of fishing and diving experiences to choose from.
The
"Akura Charter Fishing Tours" offers scenic island tours, corporate cruises
and charters with food and beverage catering available.
The "Cook Islands Divers"
conducts dive tours twice daily with scuba training available for all levels.
There are lots of restaurants, bars and cafes to choose from on the West Coast. Some offer really competitive prices. You can also choose to dine with a difference at a restaurant that offers an "Island Night" where dinner can be enjoyed whilst watching our local dancing. You may even have the opportunity to learn how to dance ("hula") yourself!
